Abstract

The study focuses on the linguistic contrast between Arabic and English at the level of linguistic derivation, and the linguistic contrast is a common method in modern linguistic studies that is based on facilitating the study of the language for learners so that it is easy for them to identify what is similar between their mother tongue and the language they want to learn. This study differs from others in describing the linguistic contrast between Arabic and English at the level of linguistic derivation, and it relies on the descriptive approach in constructing the verbs for the unknown, and assigning them to the pronouns, and deriving the nouns, then the study moves to the ten weights in the Arabic language, which is a mathematical derivation method based on arranging the morphological weights to help learners learn the morphological system in Arabic easily. The study thus relies on presenting the derivatives mentioned above in the form of linguistic contrast between Arabic and English, and the ten weights in Arabic, then it poses a question that researchers and learners alike stop at, namely: Which is easier in teaching derivation to the non-Arabic speaker, the derivatives in their traditional morphological form or in the form of the ten weights?
