Abstract

The study of random markets is of great importance, as these markets are spread densely within the urban areas of Giza Governorate, especially the city of Giza, and they effectively affect the economic, urban, social and security entity, in addition to their impact on traffic movement .This research aims to study the spatial distribution of random markets in the urban areas of Giza Governorate by highlighting the distributional picture of the current situation of random markets and their relationship to the distribution of population as well as the spatial variation in the urban areas of the governorate, in addition to identifying their functional classification. The study then addresses the distribution of random markets on the basis of the service available to the population and the periodicity of random markets in the governorate’s urban areas.

The study relied heavily on field work, and benefited from the use of geographic information systems (GIS) analyses, to identify a map of random market locations in the governorate’s urban areas, in preparation for their classification, distribution, and analysis geographically.

Key words: Random Markets - Governorate Urban Area - Spatial Dstribution - Geographic Information Systems.
