Results of excavations in El-Muzawaka Necropolis, Dakhla Oasis

Abstract

The article aims to study the results of excavations in the hill of Muzawaka, In 1972, Ahmed Fakhry rediscovered the main tombs in the site Pady-Osiris and Ped-ubastis. Between 1983-1986 Dakhla inspectorate carried out extensive excavations in the hill of Muzawaka and these excavations cover the four side which was founded different type of rock–cut tombs. the site showed that the hill contains some tombs in three or four burial levels. The first level is located at the top of the hill contains of mummified ram tombs of Khnum and other levels contains different simple type rock-cut tombs of human. We found inside these tombs a variety of important archaeological objects, The dating of Necropolis of Muzawaka are first and second century AD but the presence of bronze coins confirms the use the site since the Ptolemaic period.The article aims to study the results of excavations in the hill of Muzawaka, In 1972, Ahmed Fakhry rediscovered the main tombs in the site Pady-Osiris and Ped-ubastis.
