A semiotic analysis of the photojournalism accompanying breakthrough social development topics In Egyptian electronic newspapers

Abstract

The study aimed to try to identify the semiotic features and signs that showed organized connotations of latent meanings in the press images accompanying the topics of sustainable tourism development in Egyptian electronic newspapers. This study belongs to qualitative descriptive studies using the survey method, as well as the semiotic approach, and it was applied to a deliberate sample consisting of ( 6) From the press photos published on the Al-Youm Al-Sabea newspaper website during the time period of the study sample from January 2018 to January 2024. Using the semiotic analysis tool and relying on Roland Barthes’ approach, the results of the study reached:

- Semiotic analysis revealed the use of Youm Al-Sabea electronic newspaper with images containing iconic elements with connotations that represented sustainable tourism development and raised the value of tourist relics and discoveries. Such as focusing on discovered statues, coffins, or highlighting the historical and archaeological place.

- Through semiotic analysis, it became clear that the focus was on the human element in the press photos presented about tourism topics, and the site as a sample of the research was used to show photos of Egyptian figures, such as members of the Egyptian delegation, which highlights the state’s efforts and expresses them in a real way.
