The effect of using infographics on the perception and memory of university youth of political content (Pilot study)

Abstract

The study sought to know the effect of infographics on cognitive processes(perceive and remember), and its ability to improve the perception and remembering of the political informational content displayed on social media (Facebook and Twitter), by knowing the effect of five variables on the infographics. The researcher used the experimental approach and the semi-experimental study to achieve the objectives of the study. As it was applied to an intentional sample available from (60) students from the third and fourth year students, at the Faculty of Arts, Mass Communication Department, Aswan University, They were distributed randomly into the two groups, with (30) students in each group, into two groups (the first group (30) individuals divided into (15) respondents on Facebook, and (15) respondents on Twitter), as well as the second group. The results of the study were interpreted in the light of the hypotheses of information representation theory and other models and theories that explain the process of representing images and texts. The results of the studies indicate that there is a positive effect of infographics on the possibility of acquiring information from political news at the level of perception and free and closed memory.
