Some Psychological Variables Predicting Recovery of Drug Addiction

Abstract

The study aimed to verify the relationship between some psychological variables (tolerance- orientation towards life- hope) and recovery of addiction, and to reveal the differences in some variables study according to (age, number of relapses, place of residence, marital status, level of education), and to reveal the contribution of some psychological variables in predicting recovery of addiction. The study sample consisted of (89) recovering addicts. The Tolerance Scale prepared by (Thompson etal., 2005) was applied to them, and Orientation towards life Scale prepared by (Scheier& Carver, 1985), and the Hope Scale prepared by (Snyder etal., 1997), and recovery of addiction Scale (Prepared by researchers). The results of study showed that statistically significant positive relationship between some psychological variables (tolerance- orientation towards life- hope) and recovery of addiction. The results also showed that no differences in tolerance and hope according to the variables of age, number of relapses, social status and educational status, and that there are no differences in orientation towards life in the variables of age, number of relapses and educational status, while there are differences in orientation towards life according to social status in favor of the married and dependent. There are differences in recovery of addiction according to the variables of age in favor of the older and number of relapses in favor of the non-relapser and social status in favor of the married and dependent. also revealed the contribution of some psychological variables (tolerance- orientation towards life- hope) in predicting recovery of addiction.
