Rock art is spread throughout Africa, but most of it is concentrated in two main regions: North Africa, especially the regions of Tadarat Acacus and Tassili Anjar, and South Africa. The Apollo 2 site in Bradenburg, Namibia, is the oldest of all. Tadarat Acacus is one of the greatest areas of rock art. There is strong evidence that this art did not represent a single human group, although there was a common culture that spread throughout the desert during the Neolithic, but the multiplicity and diversity of the style and the difference of the animals represented in it, and its time span of thousands of years make it represent different human groups in terms of gender and culture. At least black and white groups can be identified, and each group may be divided into ethnic groups according to its characteristics. The nature of the classification of historical eras according to the method used in implementing rock art: Researchers have relied in determining the major stages of rock art in North Africa on criteria that clearly define the beginning and end of each stage. These criteria are nothing but the result of various studies and analyses of the types of shapes represented and the compatibility between them, as well as the methods of representing them and the patterns of their completion techniques, such as the degree of incisions and engravings.
