Strategic Commodities in Egyptian – Australian relations "wheat as a model"

Abstract

The research deals with strategic commodities in Egyptian – Australian relations "wheat as a model", during the period from May to August 1970. Wheat is a strategic commodity for all countries of the world, the shortage of strategic wheat stocks threatens the country’s food security. The aim of the research is to study strategic commodities and identify the importance of wheat as a strategic crop in international relations "Egyptian- Australian relations as a model".

The time frame of the research extended from May to August 1970, due to the distinguished role of the Nasr Company for imports and exports in trade exchange and importing strategic commodities such especially wheat.

The study followed the historical and analytical approach with the aim of analyzing strategic food commodities such as wheat in Egyptian – Australian relations.

Some of the research results include the idea that increasing the strategic stock of strategic commodities such as wheat leads to achieving self- sufficiency, food security and reducing the food gap. The research results show that trade relations between Egypt and Australia were not limited to the supply of wheat only, but extended to include cooperation in building a wheat silo project, which began in the 1980s. Wheat is considered a strategic commodity for countries, and the decline in its strategic stock leads to a problem of food security
