Abstract

The research addresses the concept of "conflicting hadiths" in the science of hadith, discussing both its linguistic and technical definitions, as well as its divisions and methods for dealing with contradictory hadiths. The research explains that "conflicting hadiths" refers to the apparent contradiction between two hadiths with opposing meanings. This concept is divided into two categories: reconciling the hadiths if possible, and abrogation or preference if reconciliation is not feasible. The research also outlines the conditions for considering a hadith as conflicting, such as the hadith being acceptable and the opposing hadith being valid for proof.

The research further discusses Imam Al-Tahawi's methodology in dealing with conflicting hadiths, where he focuses on reconciling the hadiths if possible, then abrogation if reconciliation is not possible, and finally, preferring one narration over another based on textual and rational evidence. Al-Tahawi also criticizes certain approaches in dealing with conflicting hadiths, such as reconciling the texts without preference or delaying the identification of the abrogating and abrogated texts.
