Abstract

This research, titled "The Additions of Musnad al-Rabi' ibn Habib al-Ibadi to the Books of Sunnah: An Analytical Study," aims to evaluate Musnad al-Rabi' ibn Habib from the perspective of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah, while highlighting its significance among the Ibadis. The study begins by introducing al-Rabi' ibn Habib and his Musnad, detailing his upbringing, teachers, students, and his scholarly status from the Ibadi viewpoint, where the Musnad is considered the most authentic book after the Quran.

However, the study then shifts to a critical analysis of the Musnad according to the criteria of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah. It highlights fundamental issues that weaken the Musnad's credibility, such as the absence of authentication for al-Rabi' ibn Habib and his teacher, Abu Ubaidah Muslim ibn Abi Karima, in the books of Ahl al-Sunnah's narrators. It also points out the problem of discontinuity in the Musnad's chain of narration, which largely relies on a single path. Furthermore, the research addresses the absence of the Musnad from early scholars' compilations among Ahl al-Sunnah, and the discrepancy of some narrations with authentic traditions found in established Sunnah books, such as the hadith "Actions are but by intentions" and "Seek knowledge even in China," as well as narrations denying intercession for grave sinners. The study concludes by rejecting the historical secrecy justification for the Musnad's absence, asserting that these issues render the Musnad unreliable for establishing Sunnah or creed according to Ahl al-Sunnah, except for what conforms to established narrations from other sources
